How Do I Emigrate To Canada?

Canada is the second largest country in the world. The spectacular scenery, wide open spaces, and the enviable standard of living make it a popular place to live and work. If you are planning on going there for any length of time, you will need to know what you need, in order for you to enter the country, work there, and build a new life.

The Different Types Of Visa's

The type of visa you require depends on whether you are planning on studying or working there for a temporary period of time, or if you want to move there permanently.

Permanent Visa's:

  • Canadian Skilled Migration - The Skilled Worker Program is the main route for permanent immigration. Canada welcomes employable individuals that can contribute to their economy. However, the Program works on a points basis where you must score a minimum of 67 points to be eligible. Points are awarded depending on factors such as your age, education, and language ability.
  • The Provincial Nominee Program - If you are prepared to settle in one of Canada’s provinces, you may be able to obtain sponsorship through The Provincial Nominee Program. Provincial governments are able to choose immigrants according to which skill sets they require.
  • Priority Occupation List - If you are qualified in an occupation which is deemed to be in demand by the Canadian government, you can emigrate to Canada as a matter of priority even if you do not have a job offer from a Canadian employer.
  • Canadian Business Visa - This type of visa is granted to individuals who can start a business in Canada and become economically established. There are three streams; Investor, Entrepreneur, and self-employed. Applicants must prove their ability and, like The Skilled Worker Program, meet the minimum pass mark for the Business Points Test.
  • Self-employed immigrants that have the experience, intention and ability to purchase and manage a farm that will create employment for themselves may qualify for a visa. They must be able to support themselves financially on arrival in Canada.
  • Canadian Partner or Canadian Family Visa - If you have a spouse, partner or family in Canada that are prepared to help you with sponsorship, you may qualify for a visa.
  • All business applicants must have sufficient funds to support themselves and their family for at least a year, and all persons entering Canada must have CA $10,000 or more.

Temporary Visa's:

  • Canadian Travel Visa - A Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) may be required for people traveling to Canada on a temporary basis from certain designated countries or territories.
  • Canadian Work Permit - You can apply for a work permit through Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) if you have obtained an offer of employment from a Canadian employer and the employer has applied for a Labour Market Opinion (LMO).
  • Study Permit - Most foreign students will need a Study Permit if they are intending to take a course that will last 6 months or more.
  • Working Holiday Visa - A visa for a Canadian Working Holiday Program (now called the International Experience Canada, or IEC Initiative) is obtained from The High Commission of Canada or Embassy Office within your country.
